Inter to Formally Open Extension Talks with De Vrij

After restarting the negotiation with Milan Skriniar, Inter are ready to do the same with Stefan De Vrij. He’s on an expiring contract as well. However, he had yet to pick an agent following the passing of Mino Raiola. He informed Rafaela Pimenta that he was moving on.

As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, he will be represented by Federico Pastorello. The Dutchman had a subpar start of the season and was often benched for Francesco Acerbi, but he has shown better as of late. He hit the net for the first time against Sampdoria. He hadn’t done it well over a year.

Inter have scheduled a meeting with the new De Vrij camp during the World Cup break once the paperwork is completed. They will offer him to re-up at the same wages as today, about €4M net. The new pact could be seasonal or a two-year one.

The defender will turn 31 in February and wouldn’t lack suitors if available on a Bosman transfer. But he’s comfortable with the Nerazzurri and will attentively weigh their proposal. It’s not sure if and when he’ll take it, but it’s surely possible, the publication informs.

Our Take on the Inter Talks with De Vrij

CEO Giuseppe Marotta said the renewals didn’t hinge on what they accomplished Champions League, but the timing of the fresh discussions with their two center-backs is surely suspicious. Keeping them would be less expensive than finding proper replacements. The two negotiations might be intertwined, as they can’t afford to lose both, technically or economically. Given the presence of PSG, Skriniar has the priority.
