An Inter scout was spotted in the stands of the recent game between Club Brugge and Benfica to scout a few players, in particular Tajon Buchanan. The Canadian winger caught the Nerazzurri’s attention during the World Cup. He’s one of the main candidates to succeed Denzel Dumfries on the right flank, TuttoSport relays.
Chelsea are unlikely to acquire another wingback considering they have Reece James and secured Malo Gusto from Olympique Lyonnais in a €30M move in January. He’ll finish the season in Ligue 1 and join them in the summer. Still, La Beneamata are confident they’ll be able to adequately cash in on the Dutchman anyway. Arsenal and Manchester United are eyeing him now.
Buchanan is atop their shortlist of replacements, which includes also Torino’s Wilfried Singo, Tottenham’s Emerson Royal, and Lazio’s Manuel Lazzari, who has a clear connection with coach Simone Inzaghi and has slightly fallen out of favor at Lazio as of late.
The Nerazzurri believe €15/20M will be enough to onboard the 24-year-old. He transferred to Belgium in a €6M move from New England in January 2022. He has posted 2 goals and 6 assists in 37 appearances with his current club.
Our Take on Inter and Buchanan
Since Matteo Darmian is rock-solid, the Nerazzurri should definitely go for somebody with upside, even if he wouldn’t necessarily be ready to be a full-time starter right away. That would be the case for the Canadian international, who would have to learn the position and the defensive assignments. He could potentially have the same trajectory as Dumfries.
