Inter Turn Their Attention Toward Genoa Goalkeeper

Inter are having issues striking a deal with Athletico Paranaense for Bento and deepened the conversation for Genoa’s Josep Martinez, who’s their main alternative at the moment. The Brazilian side has dug its heels in since other teams are keen too, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

They might have upped their demands after asking for €20M in previous weeks. They are surely not inclined to play ball on the formula and would accept only an outright acquisition. The talks haven’t collapsed, but the Nerazzurri are looking around.

Given the hurdles for Bento, Inter are examining Martinez with more determination. His price tag isn’t much lower, but Genoa could accept a loan with an obligation to buy. Their scouts have watched him a few times. The player would be happy to join, even though he’d have to duel with Yann Sommer at first.

The Brazilian specialist discussed his future to Um Dois Esportes (via Onefootball).

“Nothing has been decided. It’s just speculation. I’m thankful to Athletic Paranaense, the club I love. We wanted to win, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen. I had a good game. I’ll go to the national team to help it and do my best.”

Instead, the agent of Martinez, Sergio Barila, dished to TVPlay.

“Many sides are after him given his strong season. They are inquring about his contractual situation. He’s very attached to Genoa and is comfortable in Liguria. Should a team express interest, we’ll talk with the management to decide how to proceed.”
