The LuLa is back and Simone Inzaghi can be happy with that ahead of the upcoming Champions League Final. Thanks to a shimmering performance from their strikers Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, Inter outclassed Atalanta to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League regardless of the outcome of the Final in Istanbul.
It ended 3-2 at the San Siro in the penultimate round of Serie A as the home Nerazzurri secured a double lead in just two minutes, with Lukaku finding the back of the net 40 seconds after kick off.
Big Rom was picked with a long ball by Alessandro Bastoni and exchanged with his partner in crime Lautaro before slotting the ball past Marco Sportiello. Nicoló Barella soon doubled the Beneamata‘s lead, firing the ball past the Atalanta goalkeeper after he had managed to deny Federico Dimarco twice in a row.
Mario Pasalic pulled one back for the La Dea before the half time break, finishing from a corner kick action to give Atalanta some new hopes.
In the second half, Lautaro Martinez made it three for Inter from a Marcelo Brozovic classy assist and Luis Muriel set the score at 3-2 during stoppage time as André Onana failed to block the Colombian’s screamer from outside the box.
Inter wrapped a convincing win, ending their Serie A campaign at home on a positive note. Simone Inzaghi and his boys can now look at the European showdown with Manchester City with their minds clear.
On the other hand, Atalanta collected their third loss out of the last five games and said goodbye to their remaining chances of making it to the Champions League next season. Gian Piero Gasperini and co. can still grab a Europa League ticket but they will need to beat Monza at the Gewiss Stadium in their last domestic game next Sunday.
