Inter Wingback Hopes To Renew His Contract But Demands More Playing Time

Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries admits he is eager to renew his contract at Giuseppe Meazza despite his relatively sparse playing time under Simone Inzaghi. However, during his extensive interview with ad.nl via Calciomercato, the Netherlands international complained about his limited first-team opportunities.

Dumfries’ contractual wobble at Inter has been one of the hottest topics in Serie A since the end of last season. The Nerazzurri tried to tie him down to a new long-term deal in the summer, albeit to no avail.

In addition to the player’s reasonable concerns over his first-team prospects, Manchester United’s rumored interest threw a spanner in the works. But that deal is seemingly off the table now that Erik ten Hag is one step away from being dismissed.

Meanwhile, Inter haven’t lost hope of renewing Dumfries’ expiring contract. Negotiations are progressing quickly, with the ex-PSV Eindhoven right-back revealing his desire to get things done on short notice.

I hope the renewal with Inter will be completed as soon as possible. It seems like a good deal, I hope to be able to sign as soon as possible. I have played little and therefore I still have to renew, the Dutchman said.

Yet, Dumfries isn’t satisfied with his current status at Inter. He has only started one Serie A fixture this season, mostly playing second fiddle to Matteo Darmian.

Obviously, I want to play more, I’m focused on gaining more minutes. Thankfully, I’ve played a bit more in the last few weeks, but Darmian is a tough competitor in that role, the Inter star added.
