With Benjamin Pavard on the mend and a rather comfortable position in the group standings, Simone Inzaghi plots to field Yann Aurel Bisseck from the get-go in Wednesday’s fixture against RB Salzburg. The youngster has seen almost no playing time so far, as Goal relays.
He has made two appearances, entering the Monza and Torino matches late for a total of eight minutes, plus added time. The German youngster was acquired for €7M from Aarhus at the beginning of the summer. He was supposed to have a fairly sizeable role. He was the first defender the club brought in after losing Milan Skriniar.
The situation drastically changed for Bisseck as Inter elected to use most of their budget for another center-back, eventually luring a top-shelf one. In addition, the Nerazzurri put Juan Cuadrado under the contract midway through the summer, moving Matteo Darmian to the back three in a somewhat permanent fashion.
The coach confirmed in the pre-game presser that Pavard would miss a month and a half due to a patellar dislocation. They’ll have a shorter rotation till late December, opening up room for Bisseck. Beating RB Salzburg would clinch the qualification to the next round, allowing them to focus on Serie A in the next month. They are level with Real Sociedad in first position with a four-point lead over their next opponents. Benfica have lost every game so far.
