Investigators Looking For Secret Ronaldo Paper amid Probe

The prosecutors of the DA’s office of Turin are searching for a mysterious document related to the contract of Cristiano Ronaldo. They heard about it in a wiretap, but they have not found it yet. If it does not turn up, they are considering questioning the Portuguese ace directly, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

The matter came up in a conversation between Federico Cherubini, who was the deputy head of football at the time, and lawyer Cesare Gebasio. One of the two said: “The famous piece of paper that technically should not exist.”

The investigators asked about it to everybody they interrogated so far, without getting a helpful answer. The next step will be to contact his representative and his agency Gestifute. Ronaldo is not under investigation, although his contract has raised doubts.

Some reports suggested a Juventus executive might produce it directly, but it has not happened yet. The judiciary decree says it concerns the overdue wages of the striker. The players gave up a few monthly salaries during the stoppage due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ronaldo might have gotten them back later on. Or he could have pocketed a severance package to incentivize his move to Manchester United last summer, the newspaper informs.

Regardless of its nature, the district attorneys want to know how the management recorded the sum in the balance sheets. The whole Juventus brass is subject to a probe for doctoring the financial numbers through fake plusvalenze and invoicing. There have also been anomalies about the bonuses of the players.
