Simone Inzaghi wishes to bolster the Inter squad with a new striker. Joaquin Correa picked up another muscular injury, leaving them short-handed for a few matches. The coach would like to sign Felipe Caicedo, whose future at Genoa is uncertain, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.
The two spent four years together in Rome, where he thrived as a super-sub. The Ecuadorian forward tallied 33 goals in 139 appearances with the Biancocelesti. He joined the Grifone last summer, but his stay has been mired by injuries. He has featured in nine matches, starting and scoring just once. The Rossoblù are overhauling the roster under the new regime and have yet to make a decision on him. He is under contract until 2024.
On the other hand, the Inter management is considering a different striker for the job. Eddie Salcedo has not played as much as they hoped while on loan at Spezia. He could be brought back to stay in the squad as a backup. Or he could be offered to Genoa in order to free up Caicedo. The youngster began his career with the Grifone before the Nerazzurri poached him. They had Martin Satriano in the role in the first half of the season, but he recently joined Brest on a temporary spell.
The gaffer and the front office will soon have a meeting to decide the strategy. Another route could be to go all-in on Filip Kostic. The addition would allow them to deploy Ivan Perisic in the frontline more often.
