Inzaghi Before Shakhtar Match: “We Control Our Destiny”

Inter will look to edge closer to the qualification tomorrow against Shakhtar Donetsk. Simone Inzaghi spoke in the pre-game presser: “We just defeated Napoli, which had the best defense in Europe. It was a display of maturity and character. We control our own destiny after the two wins over Sheriff Tiraspol.”

The coach praised the opponents: “We will face a team that plays good football and has an excellent gaffer. They gave us trouble in the first tilt, but we could have prevailed given the chances we created. We will need a strong organization. Our goal is to make it to the Round of 16. We are in a good spot, but we are not there yet. We will try to ruin their game plan.”

Inzaghi updated on the injuries: “Stefan De Vrij and Alexis Sanchez will not be present. Nicolò Barella and Joaquin Correa asked to come out Sunday. Hakan Calhanoglu received a yellow card, and I replaced him for that reason. Edin Dzeko was not in tip-top shape. I will have to evaluate them. Hopefully, some rest will be helpful.”

“I have the luck of managing advanced players that have been at high levels for some time. We have met every type of opponent, and we have always fared well. We know Shakhtar and Roberto De Zerbi.”

Inzaghi was asked whether his stamp on the team is more visible now: “It is a process and, while we have made some progress, there is still a lot to do. Every coach has their own ideas, and I found an excellent environment that welcomed me well. I have been here for four months, and we have improved. The win over Napoli will be a big boost, even though we had not done poorly in previous key clashes.”
