Inzaghi Heaps Praise on Inter Display in Scintillating Derby Win

Inter produced another rampant performance to trounce arch-rivals Milan 5-1 in the first Derby della Madonnina edition of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign. With both sides heading into proceedings with a perfect league record, Saturday’s encounter at Giuseppe Meazza had all the makings of a top-table six-pointer.

But only one side was left standing after 90 minutes, and it was Inter. Simone Inzaghi’s men showed no mercy today, as Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s brace, coupled with the goals from Marcus Thuram, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Davide Frattesi, put Milan to the sword.

Rafael Leao scored the consolation goal for Stefano Pioli’s team, but it was hardly enough to make up for numerous defensive blunders. Inter knew how to punish every mistake made by Milan’s clueless backline to make it five head-to-head victories in a row and go alone at the top of the Serie A table.

There’s not much Inzaghi could’ve asked from his players. The Inter boss was understandably full of prise for his team in the post-game interview.

We have had a great start to the season and played a huge derby. We were always focused, we scored in the right moments, and the players that came on from the bench did really well, so compliments to the boys,” Inzaghi told the club’s official website.

“We know it is only a good beginning but I we are happy for our fans,” the Inter coach continued. “The last derbies we won brought us a trophy and the chance to play in a huge final, and this game has given us momentarily the top spot of the table.
