Inzaghi Praises Inter Spirit Post EuroDerby First Leg Win

Inter cruised to a 2-0 win against Milan in the first leg of the EuroDerby, as two quickfire goals Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan was enough to beat a rather toothless Rossoneri outfit. Nerazzurri tactician Simone Inzaghi rued his side wastefulness after the game, pointing to the fact that they could have taken a bigger lead going into the second leg.

Speaking to Sportitalia in his post-match press conference, Inzaghi nonetheless praised his side and assessed their performance.

“The boys were good, we had a perfect first half. We managed the second half in the best way without risking almost anything except on Tonali’s post. A great victory but we are missing the last step.”  (via FCInterNews)

Inzaghi believes Inter need to keep up with their momentum as the important matches of the season begins to dawn upon them.

“In the first half, the gap should have been bigger: post, penalty taken off, the clearance on the post – continues the coach -. We could have scored more but we take the 2-0, knowing that we still have 90 minutes left plus recovery for a great dream. It’s a great feeling, in twenty months we’ve done important things, lifted trophies but it doesn’t matter what has been. The future counts. We have Sassuolo, then Milan, we have an Italian Cup final and we want to aim for the Champions League. We know there’s a little something missing, but kudos to these guys, because from 1 April we’ve been playing every 48-72 hours with great quality.”

Inzaghi’s Inter have now beaten Milan three times across all competitions in a single season – Serie A, Coppa Italia and UEFA Champions League – for the first time ever in the club’s history.
