Inzaghi Previews Salernitana Clash Against Sassuolo

Salernitana coach Filippo Inzaghi is wary of the threat Sassuolo possess, with the Neroverdi already beating the likes of Juventus and Inter in back-to-back games this season. The ex-Milan and Juve striker hopes to pick up his side’s season after the Coppa Italia win over Sampdoria, despite the defeat against Napoli in the Campania Derby in their next match.

In his pre-match press conference, the 2006 World Cup winner took stock of the game against Alessio Dionisi’s men.

“I arrived recently, but I think I understand more dynamics every day. We need to recover physical strength and conviction. I’m certain we have become a different team after the Samporia tilt. I am very happy with the choice I made and I hope to stay in Salerno for many years.” (via SassuoloNews)

Sassuolo have once again proven to be dark horses despite their lowly position in the Serie A table.

“They have very strong players, they beat Juve and Inter, but we will fight. We want to have an away victory. The team is training the way I like it “

Inzaghi declared there’s no time for excuses going forward as he seeks to elevate the Granata’s tag as the worst team of the new campaign.

“It’s true that things were going well last year, but it’s also true that, when I arrived, only 4 games had been won in the last 24. We had to recover morale. We have to run more and put in more intensity. We’re working more, especially on the mental aspects. The alibis ended a long time ago for both the players and the coach. I want to see the attitude we had versus Sampdoria and Napoli again.”

Salernitana are one of the three teams still winless in the top-five European leagues in 2023/24, alongside Lyon and Almeria.
