Inter defeated Roma one-nil on Sunday night but faces major injury concerns as Hakan Calhanoglu and Francesco Acerbi picked up thigh problems a week before the Juventus clash. Simone Inzaghi weighed in during his post-game remarks to various outlets (via SOSFanta).
“Calhanoglu wasn’t fully fit going into the game. I would have made different choices if Kristjan Asllani was available. He felt his adductor tighten up, so it could be muscle fatigue. Acerbi experienced the same thing in his flexor. He told us that he might have stopped in time, but we’ll see with the tests. We hope their issues aren’t serious, and we don’t think they are. We had some problems in the midfield today without Asllani and Piotr Zielinski. They’ll need to be assessed too. We have no certainties ahead of the Young Boys game. Calhanoglu wasn’t in tip-top shape, but he had a good practice yesterday, and the warm-up went well. I think he subbed off before things got worse. The pain didn’t increase afterward.”
Inzaghi took stock of the precious victory.
“It was very important against a worthy opponent and in a match that presented some difficulties. The lads were good. I told them we needed to get going on the road, as we did better last year. It’s our fourth win in a row. I complimented them. We had to score a second, but Mile Svilar was excellent on Denzel Dumfries and Marcus Thuram. We helped each other and didn’t allow many chances despite facing a quality team. Playing here won’t be easy for anybody. Time will tell whether this was a signal. The squad works seriously and wants to win, but other sides invested and got better.”
