Inzaghi: “There Is Satisfaction but We Are Missing the Last Step”

Following Inter’s rip-roaring 3-3 draw against Spanish Outfits Barcelona at the Camp Nou within match-week four of the Champions League, Nerazzurri boss Simone Inzaghi provided his insight of the thrilling match.

While it seemed like victory was out of Inter’s grasp after the French winger Ousmane Dembele found the back of the net from point-blank range within the closing minutes of the first half, Inzaghi’s squad responded quickly as Nicoló Barella and Lautaro Martinez enabled Inter to complete the comeback with brilliant finishes in front of goal.

Just as it seemed as if La Benemata were on the verge of victory, it was Robert Lewandowski who dispatched the ball passed Andre Onana after a poor clearance from De Vrij with less than minutes remaining in order to obtain the equalizer.

Shortly after, Inter relived the Alvaro Recoba moments within the Pazza Inter days as Robin Gosens made 3-2 after curling the Argentine Martinez’s low-driven cross past Andre Ter Stegen.

However, the moment of euphoria was short lived as the Polish international scored a thunderous header, resulting in a stalemate at the Camp Nou.

Following the six-goal thriller, Inzaghi expressed his emotions following the enticing draw within the Catalonian giants’ home-stomping ground in an interview with Italian news outlet Sport Mediaset:

“There is satisfaction but we are missing the last step for the company. Now we first have two league games and then we think about Viktoria with our fans and our audience, we hope to achieve victory. For now we have to leave the Champions League aside for a moment because before we have two very, very difficult league matches. ”

With Inter sealing a point away from home, a victory against Viktoria Plzen would be enough for the Nerazzurri to put their foot across the finish-line within the race for reaching the Round of 16 as they possess  superiority within the head-to-head record over Xavi’s side.
