Inzaghi Trying to Change Inter Brass’ Mind in the Back

Inter have been scouring the market for a young center-back as their ownership wishes, but coach Simone Inzaghi would like it if they signed a veteran instead, Ricardo Rodriguez in particular, Corriere dello Sport informs (via Tuttomercatoweb).

His personal terms wouldn’t be a burden. He’d settle for a one-year contract with €1.5M. That’s the main difference with Mario Hermoso, who demands a longer deal and a much higher salary.

Inzaghi prefers limiting the spending for a left-footed ‘braccetto’ to back up Alessandro Bastoni, and Rodriguez has handled the role for several years at Torino, to use the resources to address a more urgent need in his opinion: a pacey attacker.

The Nerazzurri have downplayed their interest in Albert Gudmundsson but haven’t set sights on any other forward for now. However, something could occur only after they find a way to ship off Joaquin Correa and Marko Arnautovic.

The gaffer believes a band-aid would suffice since Matteo Darmian, Carlos Augusto, Yann Aurel Bisseck, and Benjamin Pavard can all take care of the role in a pinch.

Our Take on Inter, Inzaghi, and Rodriguez

The two acquisitions aren’t mutually exclusive if they sell their players well and can orchestrate a favorable formula with Genoa, but the boss is right, as Bastoni is very durable, and Tajon Buchanan was only a fringe part of the rotation. Instead, a super-sub who could turn the tide was one of their few glaring holes last season.
