“We Needed It” – Inzaghi Comments on Win Over Shakhtar

Inter manager Filippo Inzaghi was delighted with his team’s performance against Shakhtar Donetsk today.

A brace from Edin Dzeko saw the Nerazzurri win 2-0 and all but confirm their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Inzaghi told Inter’s official website: “We needed this victory. After a first half with many chances but with the result blocked at 0-0, a bit of tension had built up, so Dzeko’s goal was a liberation. This explains my exultation.

“The eventual qualification for the round of 16 would be a great achievement. I also talked about it with the management when I signed the contract. We still have to wait because football is strange, but with 10 points we are usually well advanced for the next round. Tonight we played another great match forty-eight hours after another match in which we spent a lot of physical and mental energy.

This was a victory Inter needed badly and they are now on the cusp of making the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in a decade. Provided Real Madrid beat Sheriff, the Nerazzurri will book their place in the last 16.
