UEFA Coefficients: A Decent Week for Italian Clubs

The talk of coefficients have a higher significance with the new Champions League format coming in 2024. Keeping that in mind, here is a look back at how the clubs did this week.

The seven Italian clubs managed an overall record of 4-1-2 in Europe over the past week, achieving 1.285 in coefficients. Victories from Inter, Juventus and Napoli in the Champions League, Fiorentina’s success in the Europa Conference League helped. Lazio’s stalemate in the Europa League, also earned points. Milan (UCL) and Roma (UEL) both lost, contributing nothing.

That leaves Italy seventh in UEFA’s seasonal country ranking after three matchdays of the group stage. The seasonal total regarding coefficients for Italy is 5.537. Starting next season, the top two countries in UEFA’s seasonal coefficient ranking will earn an extra berth in the following campaign’s Champions League at the league phase.

For each Italian team that qualifies for the Champions League knockout round or wins their Europa League group, there will be 0.714 coefficient points added to Italy’s seasonal total.
