As Manchester United reel from one of their biggest home defeat at the hands of eternal rivals Liverpool – a 5-0 drubbing – huge doubts are cast over the future of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is touted to either voluntarily leave or be sacked by the club management soon enough.

According to reports from Manchester Evening News, Italian mastermind Antonio Conte, who is currently a free agent after leaving Inter at the end of last season, is open to resuming his managerial career, at Old Trafford.

However, the former Italy national team manager is said to have reservations about the club’s structure and needs assurance from the club over their perceived direction this season.

His history with rivals Chelsea would not play a part in his decision, just like Jose Mourinho, but he apparently wants to be on the same page as his superiors regarding the Champions League – a title he has never been able to capture.

Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane is another contender to succeed the Norwegian, potentially pairing once again with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Conte has a rich managerial history of winning the Serie B, Serie A (x4), Supercoppa Italiania (x2), Premier League and the FA Cup. He came close to winning the Europa League with Inter in 2019/20 but failed to do so as Inter fell 3-2 to Sevilla in the final.
