Vincenzo Italiano has shrugged away talk of missing out on the chance of representing Napoli. The Partenopei were linked heavily to the Fiorentina coach for a while after losing Luciano Spalletti, but Italiano is confident of his choice of staying put in Florence.
Speaking to La Stampa (via Tuttomercatoweb), Italiano took stock of Napoli’s interest in him previously.
“Naples a missed opportunity for me? No, it’s a stadium where I won 4 times out of 5,” he said.
He has his priorities set straight after missing out on two trophies last campaign.
“We are coming from two lost finals, and now we are competing everywhere and we will have to choose strategically. I would like to improve on last year’s 7th-8th place. Winning in Naples gave us an important belief.”
Italiano’s Viola are unbeaten since losing 4-0 to Inter at the start of the season.
“We lost 4-0 at San Siro against Inter. That day we had the wrong approach and game management. We analyzed what happened in detail, it may have been a coincidence but there hasn’t been a loss since then. It will happen again, obviously, but I don’t think it will be due to the same mistakes.”
The defeat to the Nerazzurri remains Fiorentina’s only defeat so far this Serie A season, as they sit in fourth place level on points with Juventus.
