Italy coach Roberto Mancini gave his thoughts on the 2022/23 Serie A league season, including his view on the players who will have a starring role for the top clubs and who will fight for the Scudetto. The Serie A season will begin this weekend – with Milan vs Udinese and Sampdoria vs Atalanta being the first two matches of the new campaign.
In an exclusive interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the veteran manager shed light on who he thinks will lift the coveted title next summer.
“My favorites? Milan, Inter and Juventus are in front of everyone. Then I see Rome and Napoli. Real football has yet to begin, but the Rossoneri’s summer has sent comforting signals. They have Rafael Leao who can still grow a lot, and the same goes for Sandro Tonali. They will have to reach full maturity this year.”
Apart from the two aforementioned players, Mancini believes Inter’s high-profile loan signing will do the job efficiently and will boost their Scudetto chances. He zeroed in on three of their stars in particular.
“The Nerazzurri always have the same defense, while Romelu Lukaku makes the difference in Italy. In addition, if Robin Gosens plays like before, they don’t lose much on the left. I think that Alessandro Bastoni can become a great defender, but he has to give it his all. It must be an important season for him too.”
