At the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, Italy took on Ecuarado in their second friendly test on American soil. Although they didn’t create a flurry of chances, an early scorcher from Lorenzo Pellegrini and an injury-time chip courtesy of Nicolò Barella ensured the Azzurri fans returned home enchanted. So here are our player ratings for Italy who beat Ecuador by two unanswered goals to wrap up their US tour.
Italy (3-4-2-1)
Guglielmo Vicario – 6
Except for one shot in the second half, the Spurs goalkeeper didn’t have an awful lot to do between the sticks. Though he looked clumsy at times when receiving backpasses.
Matteo Darmian – 6.5
An accomplished display from the Inter veteran who dealt with everything thrown in his way with ease thanks to his massive experience.
Gianluca Mancini – 6
A solid outing at the back from the Roma man which was enough to justify his late Italy call-up. But could have avoided a late booking.
Alessandro Bastoni – 5.5
The 24-year-old did well in possession, but at times found life difficult against Alan Minda whom he ended up injuring with a slightly late challenge.
Raoul Bellanova – 6.5
The Torino wingback was a menacing presence on the right flank, managing to run into space on several occasions and deliver inviting balls to the box. He played for one half, but it was enough to make a positive impact.
Nicolò Barella – 8
The midfielder put on a sensational performance worthy of the Italy armband. Won back the ball on countless occasions, picked up Bellanova with exquisite through balls and put the exclamation mark on an excellent outing with a brilliant chip to double his side’s lead.
Jorginho – 6
A veteran display from the Arsenal man. Although he couldn’t replicate his influential cameo from the Venezuela encounter, he kept the ball ticking in the middle of the work.
Federico Dimarco – 5.5
A quiet display from the Inter star based on his usual standards. His crossing wasn’t always on cue and had some trouble containing Angelop Preciado.
Nicolò Zaniolo – 5.5
The Roman wasted an early sitter with the goal at his mercy. Although he had his moments, he often lacked the final touch.
Lorenzo Pellegrini – 6.5
The Roma captain made an immediate impact by smashing home an early opener with a fabulous long-range shot. However, his impact dwindled as the minutes progressed
Giacomo Raspadori – 5.5
A hard-working display from the Napoli star who ran all over the pitch, but was at times easily dispossessed. He was somewhat lost in the shuffle while interpreting the False-Nine role.
Substitutes
Giovanni Di Lorenzo – 6
The Napoli captain was more at ease this time while playing as a wingback, but didn’t offer a similar attacking threat to Bellanova.
Manuel Locatelli – 5.5
The Juventus star must deliver improved displays if he’s going to justify an Italy berth. It wasn’t a terrible cameo by any means, but it wasn’t sufficient.
Davide Frattesi – 5.5
The Inter man certainly worked hard, but his impact was hardly felt.
Mateo Retegui – 6
The Genoa bomber’s introduction added a different facet to the team in the final third.
Riccardo Orsolini – 6.5
The Bologna winger provided the assist to Barella with a sublime through ball.
Andrea Cambiaso – N/A
