Italy U21 Starlet Viti Returns Home to Empoli on Loan

Italy U21 defender Mattia Viti will return to boyhood club Empoli after spending the last season on loan at Sassuolo, his parent club OGC Nice have announced. Viti joined the Neroverdi in the summer of 2023 on loan from Nice with the future option to buy, which was not exercised by the Emilia-Romagna club.

As per the latest happenings, Viti will again embark on a loan, this time to Empoli, his youth club, where he emerged into the spotlight as a bright defender. The formula remains the same though, as Empoli have the option to buy back the versatile stopper at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Nice signed Viti permanently back in 2022 at a transfer fee of approximately €15M. He then joined Sassuolo the following season having failed to make his mark in Ligue 1 despite an impressive start.

Viti appeared 18 times for the Neroverdi last campaign in Serie A, scoring one goal in the process. The left-footed center-back played a pivotal role in Empoli’s progression from Serie B to Serie A, winning the Italian second division with the Azzurri in 2020/21 before his breakthrough the following campaign.
