Roma manager Ivan Juric addressed Matias Soule’s relatively sparse playing time at the Stadio Olimpico in the build-up to Sunday’s Serie A trip to Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi. Fresh off a morale-boosting 1-0 win against Torino, the Giallorossi will aim to beat Hellas Verona later today and finally find a way out of the bottom half of the standings.

Soule’s situation at the Stadio Olimpico has recently become a concerning subject. Roma paid Juventus nearly €30 million to sign the Argentine winger in the summer. However, he has been on the fringes of the Giallorossi squad despite Roma’s dreadful start to the new league campaign.

The 21-year-old was unavailable for selection because of illness in a 5-1 thrashing at Fiorentina last weekend. He made the matchday squad on Thursday but was an unused substitute as Paulo Dybala handed Roma a crucial 1-0 home triumph against Torino. Dybala has been the reason for Soule’s early struggle in the capital.

Indeed, he has been the first option in attack alongside Artem Dovbyk. Low in the pecking order, Soule has only made 174 minutes of Serie A action under Juric. However, the Croatian manager shares a different view.

Soule played a lot before he fell ill. I don’t see any problems. In that role, there are players like Baldanzi and Dybala, and you have to choose every game. Soulé has great room for improvement, but Baldanzi is doing very well, as does Dybala,” the Roma boss said, as reported by Calciomercato.
