Ivan Juric got his managerial tenure at Roma in the best possible way as the Giallorossi humbled Udinese 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico. The home team headed into proceedings amidst turmoil surrounding the club’s shock decision to sack Daniele De Rossi.
Winless after the opening four league games, Roma desperately needed a result on Juric’s touchline debut. Artem Dovbyk scored in his second consecutive Serie A match to give the hosts a slender lead at halftime.
A few minutes after the restart, Paulo Dybala scored from the spot to double his team’s lead. Tomasso Baldanzi put the icing on the cake in the 70th minute with his first goal of the season.
Roma fans were busy protesting against the club owners for dismissing De Rossi. Juric won his first league game in charge, but supporters’ unrest overshadowed his success. After the match, the Croat talked to the press.
“We did well, especially in the first half, whereas after the break we started losing our shape every now and then. It was a good response from the team,” the new Roma boss told Sky Sport Italia, as reported by TMW.
“All I know is that when I arrived, the players were very honest with me that they were sad about De Rossi’s dismissal. I appreciate that, because at times players can try to hide it, but you could see how sad they were. They had given their all and still did not get good results.
“I think we worked well over the last few days, there are some concepts that they can apply without too many difficulties, especially the ones they did last season. Even the players who got jeered might be able to change the mood,” the Roma coach continued
“These lads were really disappointed at the sacking and want to give their all for Roma.“
