Everton star playmaker James Rodriguez has urged departing Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi to team up with his arch-nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus. During his live stream on Twitch, the Colombian admitted he would like to see the two best players of our time sharing the pitch at the Allianz Stadium.
Barcelona dropped the bombshell on Thursday by announcing that the club’s living legend Messi won’t be wearing the Blaugrana colors next season. Barca’s immense financial struggle prevented the club from renewing the Argentine’s contract despite having an agreement in place.
During his illustrious career at Camp Nou, Messi clocked up a staggering 672 goals in 778 appearances en route to winning six Ballon d’Or awards. With one of the greatest players to ever grace the game now officially available, a bidding war is about to take place, with several top European clubs on the hunt.
Messi seems to be closest to completing a blockbuster switch to Paris Saint-Germain, where he would be reunited with his ex-teammate Neymar and his former rival Sergio Ramos. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has already withdrawn the Citizens from the race, naming Tottenham’s Harry Kane his number one goal.
Inter were in the mix last summer when Messi looked on the verge of leaving Barcelona. However, the club’s current financial state means they are effectively out of the race to sign the Copa America 2021 winner.
But a shocking move to Juventus could be on the cards. Messi should at least consider such a prospect, as it would enable him to play alongside his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo. At least that’s what James Rodriguez is inclined to believe.
“Messi should go to Juventus and play with Cristiano Ronaldo, it would be a bomb,” Rodriguez explained as he streamed on Twitch (via Metro). “It’s the dream of many fans to see those two beats play together.
“Messi made 30 goals and 30 assists for Barcelona, per year, at least, and now Barcelona will have to look for other players to do that, one who scores ten and assists ten, another who scores five and assists five, the issue is finding them.
“Football has changed a lot, Messi leaving Barcelona confirms that. Who would have imagined that he would leave Barcelona or that Sergio Ramos would leave Real Madrid?
“The La Liga Clasicos are going to be different, before the cameras were for Cristiano and Messi, now people will still watch but it won’t be the same.
“If Messi went to PSG they would play alone there, they could already give them all the titles, In England, I don’t think anyone can pay him, only Manchester City.”
Having Messi and Ronaldo on the same team would be one of the most romantic football stories ever. Though they are both in their twilight years, 11 Ballon d’Or awards between them, coupled with a total of nine Champions League titles, speak enough of the career achievements on the menu.
After going head-to-head for everything there is to win in football for over a decade, the pair could bury the hatchets and waltz into retirement on the same side. While we, the footballing fans, we could be in for a treat!
