Javier Zanetti has spoken out following Inter’s narrow Derby della Madonnina win against arch-rivals Milan. The legendary left-back, echoing the voice of his former teammate Marco Materazzi, has praised Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli for upsetting the odds this season.
Speaking on DAZN’s Supertele program (via FCInterNews), the Nerazzurri vice-president spoke on a plethora of topics, including the 1-0 victory in the Derby di Milano.
“It’s a different Monday, winning a derby has a special flavour, above all because we deservedly won it. We have to do the best we can from here to the end. We have the Champions League, the semi-final of the Coppa Italia with Juve: we’ll have to do our best,” he said.
He praised the Partenopei for doing well under ex-Inter coach Spalletti, but blamed his club for missing out on important points due to inconsistency despite inflicting Napoli’s first and only defeat this league season.
“There’s a lot of Luciano in this Napoli. He did a great job at Inter, he’s a coach who leaves his mark on the teams. It’s due to continuity, there’s the regret of having left some points along the way (for Inter). The league is competitive, there are many matches. Napoli didn’t make a mistake, but beating them was very tough for us.”
Lautaro Martinez was the man of the moment for Inter against Milan, scoring an instrumental header to win all three points for his side.
“Honestly, I’m very happy with his career at Inter. His performance is always growing. He’s important for Inter, and he shows it every time he takes the field. He’s a generous man, he’s not going to lose; yesterday he said that the Milan derby is lived like in Argentina, he’s right because the environment is very hot.”
Inter are Napoli’s closest contenders at the top of the table despite lagging 13 points behind them.
