Javier Zanetti has wished Italy great Gianluca Vialli his best regards, as the ex-Chelsea and Juventus legend battles cancer. He was first diagnosed with the disease in 2017, before being diagnosed again in 2021. His condition has reportedly worsened while in a London hospital.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FCnterNews), the Inter legend had some warm words to share for his former on-pitch adversary.
“A wish of great strength in this moment of difficulty. Gianluca is a warrior who is fighting and giving his all, in the hope that he can heal and win this, which is the most important match of all.”
Zanetti went on to reminisce his time playing against the exciting and agile striker, who shone for Sampdoria, Cremonese, Juventus and Chelsea during his playing days.
“I have great memories of him, as a man and as a champion. I was very young when I arrived in Italy and Vialli was already an established champion: facing him was exciting, even if very complicated,” sai the Nerazzurri vice president.
The news of Vialli arrives just a week after the passing of Serie A great Sinisa Mihajlovic, who succumbed to Leukaemia after a lengthy battle.
