Jorge Sampaoli Would Welcome Reunion with Inter Star Arturo Vidal

Jorge Sampaoli would like to coach Arturo Vidal again and will ask Olympique Marseille to try to make it happen in the summer, Le 10 Sports and Calciomercato.com reports. The manager, who was recently appointed by the French club, was at the helm of the Chilean national team in the successful run in the 2015 South American Championship.

Inter’s future transfer market plans are on hold right now as the financial situation of the club is in flux. However, the chief financial officer Tim Williams, who is on his way out, stated few days ago: “In a normal situation, we could have seized some opportunities to reduce the wages bill of the team and generate extra profit by selling players, but the COVID pandemic made everything harder. The payroll is probably slightly higher than what we would like.”

Arturo Vidal recently lost the starting job in the midfield to Christian Eriksen and is making €6M per year till 2022, with an option to extend the contract for one more season. His departure, while unlikely, can not be ruled out altogether, the site says, but there are a pair of complications working against it.

The ex-Juventus and Bayern Munich man joined for free from Barcelona, but Inter will have to pay a €1M bonus if they win the title. Moreover, the team saved significantly on the taxes on his salary due to the so-called Decreto Crescita that benefits foreigners that move their business to Italy. However, the measure can be exploited only by those who stay for at least two years in the Peninsula so they would have to give back the difference, around €4/5M, if he left in the summer.
