Jorginho Focusing on Winning Games, Not on Ballon d’Or Candidacy

Jorginho has a serious shot at winning the Ballon d’Or thanks to the success in Champions League and Euro 2020. But the midfielder is not dwelling on it: “At the moment, I am focusing on the Juventus game. I will have the opportunity to fight for more trophies later this year. Italy will play in the final four of the Nations League, and Chelsea in the Club’s World Cup. 2021 has been an extraordinary year. Being a candidate makes me proud.”

Jorginho talked to La Gazzetta dello Sport: “I do not really concern myself with hypothetical things. I am sure something good would come from taking home such a prestigious award. But I want to be on the ball and zero in on playing and trying to win with Chelsea and Italy.”

He indicated how he got better during his time with the Blues: “I think I have learned a lot on multiple levels: defensively, intensity-wise, and on ball recuperation. The Premier League demands the best, especially physically. You just have to adapt or leave.”

It was not all smooth-sailing for Jorginho in England: “I used the criticism as motivation. The fans understand your commitment, and I have always given my 100 percent. The results came as a direct consequence, and my performances ameliorated. Moreover, the supporters started to understand my style and appreciate how I interpret football. Winning them over was an important challenge I had to overcome.”

Jorginho concluded by dishing on upcoming clash: “Juventus are a great team with a rich history. It will be a special night because it will be the first match against an Italian team since joining Chelsea. They are getting back on track. Reuniting with their Azzurri will be extra exciting. We shared an extraordinary adventure that changed our careers and lives.”
