Roma manager Jose Mourinho has said that he will buy Felix Afena-Gyan a new pair of boots costing €800.
The Ghanaian teenager came on as a second-half substitute in yesterday’s match against Genoa and found the net twice, with the second one being a magnificent strike. Roma won 2-0 and Afena-Gyan became the first 2003-born footballer to score in Serie A.
After scoring his first goal, the 18-year-old went to hug Mourinho and reminded him of the pair of boots he had to buy.
As quoted by Roma’s official website, the Portuguese manager said: “I promised him that [if he scored] I would buy him a pair of shoes that he really likes, that cost 800 euros. So he came over to me and told me not to forget that! Tomorrow morning I will go and buy them.
“Then tomorrow after the Primavera will be playing – and I’m sorry for Alberto De Rossi but Felix won’t be playing with them.”
The two goals will definitely boost Afena-Gyan’s confidence and we could see him make more appearances for Roma as the season progresses.
The Giallorossi are now fifth in the Serie A table with 22 points, three behind fourth-placed Atalanta. Their next fixture is against Zorya Luhansk in the Conference League.
