Luka Jovic is eagerly anticipating the clash against boyhood club Red Star Belgrade, who Fiorentina face just a week away. The Viola travel to Serbia for the preseason clash on July 26, and the ex-Real Madrid star says he’s relieved it is a friendly game.
Speaking to Serbian news portal Sportal.rs (via ViolaNews), Jovic revealed the oddity of playing against the club he graduated from, before moving to Benfica and then Eintracht Frankfurt.
“I’m thrilled, and I can’t wait for match day. I’m happy to be able to play on the field where I established myself. Even if it will be a bit strange to play against my Red Star, Marakana is that special thing. I hope that the Dalie (Red Star ultras) themselves heard, and fill the stadium. I hope it’s a nice atmosphere, a friendly one. And luckily it is, because if I faced Red Star in a real match I wouldn’t sleep for days.”
Jovic then shed light on his future at Fiorentina, having been linked to the exit door a couple of times.
“I’m focused only on my performances with Fiorentina. It’s important for me to stay physically healthy because the club believes in me. I’m not ruling out the possibility of returning to Serbia in the future. But now I still believe I can give a lot in the big leagues.”
