Juventus and Atletico Madrid Also Pursuing River Plate Starlet

The competition to sign Julian Alvarez is heating up. After Fiorentina and Milan, also Juventus and Atletico Madrid have shown interest in the River Plate prodigy. An emissary of the Bianconeri will soon fly to Argentina. The sides are battling to sign him in January, while Los Millonarios are preparing some countermeasures to keep him, TNT Sports reports.

The contract of the youngster expires in December, but River Plate are confident he will pen at least a short-term extension to prevent a Bosman move. There is a €20M release clause in his current deal. The team tried to increase it, but they could not come to terms with the player. They are looking for ways to convince the 21-year-old to spend another year with them, the outlet indicates.

River Plate have proposed to give him the richest contract in Argentina. And they promised a significant reinforcement campaign to make a serious attempt to win the Copa Libertadores. Moreover, they told him he would have better chances to be called up for the 2022 World Cup if he stayed put.

It remains to be seen whether the youngster will agree or cave to the temptation of moving to Europe. The situation is fluid because River Plate will soon elect a new president. Juventus legend David Trezeguet is part of the ticket with candidate Antonio Caselli. Moreover, Diego Simeone will pull his weight to bring him to Atletico Madrid, Mundo Deportivo reports. Alvarez has scored 15 goals in 16 domestic matches this season.
