Juventus and Inter Not as Lucky in Champions League Re-Draw

The second Champions League draw was not as favorable as the first one for Juventus and Inter. The Bianconeri will have to combat the team that just knocked out Atalanta, Villarreal. The Nerazzurri will face one of the top contenders, Liverpool.

The procedure had to be repeated due to a material error. The system did not list Atletico Madrid among the possible opponents for Manchester United. The mistake threw off the whole draw, and UEFA opted for a second take. Juventus and Inter were initially paired up with Sporting CP and Ajax.

Villarreal finished second in the group that comprised Manchester United, Atalanta, and Young Boys. They eliminated the Bergamaschi by holding them to a tie at home and stunning them away last Thursday. Juventus topped Chelsea with some luck in the first phase. They are looking to avenge two straight eliminations in the Round of 16, at the hands of Olympique Lyonnais and Porto, which had never happened in their history.

Inter will still square off against a side with a perfect record. The Reds won all their matches in the group that included Milan, Atletico Madrid, and Porto. The Nerazzurri qualified to the knockout stage of Champions League for the first time in ten years. They will host the first game in mid-February, while the Old Lady will open on the road.

Juventus never tangled with El Submarino Amarillo so far. Instead, it will be the first meeting between La Benamata and Liverpool since 2008. The English prevailed in both tilts at this exact same point of the competition.
