Massimiliano Allegri still wants to see his side improve after a last-gasp 1-0 home victory over Hellas Verona took Juventus to the top of Serie A. Saturday’s encounter at the Allianz Stadium, highlighted by VAR controversy, witnessed dramatic scenes deep into stoppages.
After VAR disallowed two of Moise Kean’s goals on either side of halftime, it seemed like Verona would waltz away from Turin undefeated. However, Juventus grabbed a last-second winner as Andrea Cambiaso latched onto the rebound near the goal line and tapped home to catapult his side to the top of the standings.
Juventus could finish this round as the Serie A pacesetters if Roma and Napoli get the better of Inter and Milan, respectively. Even if they don’t, the Scudetto race is finally off and running for the record-time Italian champions after being on the margins over the last three years. Allegri, although proud of his men, maintains there’s room for improvement.
“What must continue to reign in this environment is balance. We must be good at managing both victories and defeats. We know we have room for improvement, and we must continue to work,” the Juventus boss told DAZN, as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb.
Allegri will not be by the touchline when Juventus and Fiorentina face off against each other next weekend after picking up a late red card. Like in a 1-0 win at Milan last week, the Italian manager lost his temper in the final moments, which cost him an expulsion.
