Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is adamant marquee striker Dusan Vlahovic will blossom this season following an underwhelming 2022/23 campaign and a turbulent summer. The Italian tactician delivered a glowing assessment of the Serbian during an interview in the pre-match conference ahead of his side’s trip to the Stadio Carlo Castellani to take on Empoli on Sunday evening.
Being in and out of the starting lineup frustrated Vlahovic last season. Forced to constantly rotate with Arkadiusz Milik, the 23-year-old only netted 14 goals in 42 appearances last season.
His poor form led Juventus to put him on the market during the summer. However, after failing to find a suitable buyer, the Italians have had no choice but to give the ex-Fiorentina goal-getter a lifeline.
Vlahovic has embraced the new lease of life in Turin with open arms. After scoring and assisting on the opening Serie A weekend to catapult Juventus to a 3-0 win at Juventus, he netted an all-important equalizer against Bologna last time out.
The left-footed forward’s return to prominence has led Allegri to believe he could be one of the most prominent figures in Serie A this season.
“I see him more serene. He is better physically. Then, the attackers are always better when they score goals. He managed it in the first two games and, as I told you at the beginning of the preparation,” the Juventus boss said, as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb.
“I believe Vlahovic, who was not well last year and still scored 10-12 goals, will score his goals.“
