Matias Soule’s highly anticipated switch from Juventus to Roma is close to completion after the youngster refused to participate in Friday’s friendly against Nurnberg. Thiago Motta’s side suffered a thumping 3-0 defeat to Germany’s second-tier outfit as Soule asked to be left on the sidelines ahead of his impending transfer to the Stadio Olimpico.
“We spoke after yesterday’s training. He asked not to be involved, and I thought it was the right choice,” Motta said in the mixed zone after the game, as reported by Ilbianconero.com. The Juventus coach’s admission removed all doubts over Soule’s future, confirming he’s on the verge of joining Roma.
Daniele De Rossi has earmarked the Juventus prodigy as his top offensive target for the summer. After several unsuccessful attempts to strike a deal with the Bianconeri, the third time was the charm. Roma have agreed to pay around €30 million, including add-ons, to convince Motta’s team to sanction a deal.
With Soule set to leave, Juventus could add to their frontline in the coming weeks. Motta’s forwards couldn’t find a way past below-par Nurnberg, even though Dusan Vlahovic and Timothy Weah entered the pitch at the start of the second half. Scoring was a genuine problem for Juventus during Massimiliano Allegri’s regime.
Motta’s arrival was supposed to address that issue, but the well-documented scoring woes seemingly continue to torment Juventus. As for Roma, Soule’s forthcoming arrival will bolster De Rossi’s attacking options after Romelu Lukaku and Sardar Azmoun exited the club at the end of last season.
