Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri expects ‘a beautiful but challenging match’ against arch-rivals Milan on Sunday. Stadio San Siro forms the backdrop as the Serie A colossi meet face-to-face for the first time in 2023/24.
Juventus have lost the upper hand over Milan in recent campaigns following a long-standing dominance in this blockbuster fixture. In addition to going winless in five consecutive league meetings between the sides since a 3-1 away win in January 2021, they’ve failed to score in the last three on the trot.
However, after three disastrous Serie A seasons, Juventus are seemingly clawing back to the top. Allegri’s men went into October’s international break only four points below leaders Milan after losing just once in the opening eight rounds. The record-time Italian champions will be out to prove their Scudetto credentials, but Allegri expects a stern challenge.
“It will be a beautiful yet challenging match: in addition to being Milan-Juve, it’s also first against third on the table,” the Juventus boss told the club’s website.
“Playing at San Siro will be both beautiful and difficult. My curiosity will be to see the type of match we will play, in a stadium that will be packed, against one of the three favorites, with Inter and Napoli, to win the league.“
Juventus lost both last season’s league games against Milan ‘to nil.’ It stands to reason a psychological edge will be on the hosts’ side. But with Federico Chiesa set to rejoin the fold, the visitors will fancy their chances.
