Juventus Boss Thiago Motta Weighs Two Defensive Options Amid Bremer Injury Blow

Juventus manager Thiago Motta is reportedly assessing various options to replace the injured defensive stalwart Gleison Bremer. According to Calciomercato, the Bianconeri head coach has two viable solutions to fill the void at the heart of his backline, at least until January.

Bremer succumbed to a long-term knee injury during a Champions League victory at RB Leipzig a fortnight ago. Juventus could be without the 27-year-old defender until the end of the season.

Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli recently addressed this issue, admitting the club won’t make rush calls in the January transfer window. The Italian giants will only purchase Bremer’s replacement if an opportunity presents itself.

Nonetheless, there are plenty of fixtures between now and then. And Motta needs a sustainable solution if Juventus are to remain the most formidable defensive unit in Europe’s top-five leagues, let alone Serie A. Bremer has been a crucial component of Motta’s rearguard.

In his absence, Milan loanee Pierre Kalulu emerges as the likeliest candidate to partner Federico Gatti. The Frenchman has excelled during his early career at the Allianz Stadium. But he has frequently covered the right-back position.

During his stint at Stadio San Siro, Kalulu often played as a center-back. Motta could rely on the youngster’s versatility in the time of necessity. However, Juventus might have an unlikely solution lurking in the shadows.

Signed as a left-back from Hellas Verona in the summer, Juan Cabal has gone from a dream Juventus start to a forgotten property in less than a month. Bremer’s injury could bring him back under the spotlight, with Motta seeing the Colombian as a potential makeshift center-half.
