Juventus Chief Backs Max Allegri Amid Fans Protests Against His Regime

Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has offered public support to under-fire manager Massimiliano Allegri. Despite the Turin giants’ decent start to the new Serie A campaign, the Italian coach is still at the fans’ mercy, largely thanks to his side’s unconvincing performances.

Supporters asking for a manager’s sacking when a team is third in the table, only four points behind the leaders, isn’t something you see every day. But that’s Allegri’s fate at Juventus. And there’s a good reason for the unrest amongst the Allianz Stadium faithful.

While the results back Allegri’s stay, there’s no way he can be proud of his men’s showings. He went public to praise his side’s performance in a tepid 0-0 draw against Atalanta last month, even though a point was a highway robbery, given what Juventus had to offer in Bergamo.

Allegri’s defensive-minded football has been annoying Juventus fans for a long time. And despite accruing 17 out of the 24 available points in Serie A this term, they’re not satisfied with their manager. However, Giuntoli has defended the 56-year-old.

We have to protect our manager Allegri as we want to support him,” the Juventus chief said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. “I’m still surprised by his passion and dedication every day like he was on his first day as coach.

Allegri will have the perfect chance to silence his critics when Juventus take on Serie A pacesetters Milan next weekend. But a five-game winless league run against Rossoneri (D2, L3) cannot inspire much confidence.
