Andrea Pirlo openly discussed the possibility of adding a striker in the post-game interview with Sky Italy after the Udinese match: “The management and I are making some evaluations about it because we are a little thin with just three forwards. We talked about it, we know that it is not easy to find the right player in January. Maybe we need somebody to alternate with our guys. We have a certain type of profile in mind. Giroud? We could use him, but director Fabio Paratici knows about this stuff more than I do.”
The French international, who is on an expiring deal but has a one-year option, was asked about his future by Sky Sports UK earlier in the day: “We will see what happens in the next few months, I just want to keep my efficiency high. When I am on the pitch, I just try to be part of the team. I want the best for Chelsea and we have an opportunity to win with this great squad. I will just carry on like and try to keep it up.” Then in an interview with Le Dauphiné Liberé on Monday, he added that he wants to finish the season at Chelsea and make a decision in the summer.
Our view
Juventus are looking for a physical striker and Giroud is the best option in a list that comprises Graziano Pellè, Fernando Llorente and Leonardo Pavoletti, but it seems difficult that Chelsea will agree to part ways with him in January despite his contractual situation, the Bianconeri have basically no budget for such acquisition and Giroud does seem to keen to moving in January.
