Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri hasn’t lost track of long-serving Sassuolo stalwart Domenico Berardi. As per Gazzetta dello Sport, the record-time Serie A champions could launch a late bid to purchase the 29-year-old winger.
It’s been an enormously quiet transfer window for Juventus. Except for Timothy Weah’s arrival from Lille, Allegri has failed to add to his depleted squad. His attacking department could use some additions after the Bianconeri netted a second-low 56 goals among sides to have finished in the Serie A top seven last season.
Berardi is no stranger to Juventus. He was under contract at the Allianz Arena between 2013 and 2015. However, he failed to make an appearance for the Turin juggernauts. Allegri could mend fences by handing the Italy international a second bite at the cherry.
Sassuolo’s stance is clear. They want €30 million for their best player. Since Berardi’s contract runs out in 2027, Alessio Dionisi’s men are in a perfect bargaining position. Juventus won’t go that far to reunite with the left-footed forward. But they have devised a strategy to drive the price down.
Samuel Iling-Junior and Matias Soule could fall victim to Allegri’s pursuit of Berardi. While the former’s market value stands at around €20m, the latter’s worth is esteemed at €10m. Their combined valuation perfectly matches Sassuolo’s asking price for their talismanic winger.
It makes every sense for Juventus to offer their two up-and-coming talents as a makeweight in a deal to re-sign Berardi.
