Juventus Exec: “No Chance to Keep Ronaldo, Here Is Our New Strategy”

Juventus sporting director Federico Cherubini explained what happened during the summer window and the new approach of the club. He addressed the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo: “There was not any possibility to keep him, also for the way he talked to us. There could not have been a different ending. He was very direct in communicating his intentions in those days. We can not force a person to stay in a context he no longer identifies with.”

The official talked to Tuttosport: “When Ronaldo told us he wanted out, we immediately moved up our future plans. Moise Kean is not his replacement, but one of the pieces to keep winning with a different project.”

“Our ambition is to have a competitive squad, as always. It will continue to change because we want to lower the average age. We also wish to keep the payroll in check. Juventus have had players of great stature in recent years. Now we will focus on those with potential. I am not talking about prospects, but well-known and internationally recognized ones that can still take one further step. Our objective is still to be successful, but we will take a different road.”

“The policy was born a few years ago when we established the second team. We aim to bring more of their youngsters to the first one and not only as fringe contributors. In any case, we currently have several veterans on the roster. Maybe fewer than in the past, but still. The future Juventus will not be a team that grooms players to sell them but to win. Clearly, it will be riskier, but we have to compensate for that with the work ethic, history, solidity, and discipline that make this club unique. Bringing back former players helps with that.”
