New Juventus sporting director Francesco Calvo commented on his promotion, the recent rumors about Paul Pogba, and the club’s ongoing legal troubles to DAZN before the win over Salernitana.
“The team asked me to bring the expertise accumulated in twenty years of high-level football to the sports area. My role will be to support Federico Cherubin and Stefano Braghin, who helms the women’s squad, in the day-to-day decisions and operations. We are going through a peculiar situation. We are satisfied for qualifying for the Coppa Italia semifinals. Instead, we are taking it game by game in Serie A. We have a constant dialogue with the coach.”
Some reports from England suggested Juventus were considering terminating Pogba’s contract in the summer.
“We heard the whispers about the mismanagement of his injury, but we deny them. He’s a very important and long-term addition for us. There are always unforeseen events when dealing with physical problems, and that was the case in this instance. He’s practicing with great enthusiasm and we’ll wait for him. We are confident he’ll provide a major contribution.”
Calvo touched on a video about a Turin’s prosecutor, Ciro Santoriello, jokingly saying that he hated Juventus back in 2019.
“The club issued unequivocal statements after every ruling. The sentence is unmotivated and illogical in our opinion. We’ll continue to defend ourselves in every seat with the utmost respect for the institutions. Some words can take on different meanings when extrapolated from their original context, and that goes for everybody who’s involved in the investigation. We have but also demand respect from the whole judicial process.”
