Dusan Vlahovic has become a liability for Juventus. A series of underwhelming performances has cast doubt on his long-term future in Turin. To make things worse, he’s among the club’s highest earners.
According to Calciomecato, Juventus chiefs are working around the clock to iron out a new agreement with Vlahovic’s representatives. The Italians are desperate to spread the cost of the 23-year-old’s lucrative contract.
Vlahovic’s current deal is a problem for the club’s wage bill. The Serbian’s arrival from Fiorentina in January 2022 set Juventus back €80 million. On top of that, his salary will reach a €20m threshold gross until the summer of 2026.
In other circumstances, Juventus would gladly hold up their end of the bargain. However, the troubled striker has failed to live up to the billing. He’s only scored 22 times in 77 appearances for the club and is without a goal in Serie A for almost three months.
Following an inspirational league start, Vlahovic has hit another barren run. In addition to his dismal form, the out-of-sorts forward has proved injury-prone. All that makes Juventus wonder what to do with their overpaid flop.
The club tried to broker Vlahovic’s exit in the summer. However, a lack of interest in the underperforming marksman forced Juventus to reluctantly keep him at the Allianz Stadium. If the climate changes by the summer of 2024, they’d be happy to cash in on their star.
Given his price tag and wages, the Premier League emerges as a natural landing spot.
