Federico Chiesa faces a genuine risk of sitting out the upcoming Serie A blockbuster between Juventus and Milan. According to Calciomercato, Monday could be the ‘X day’ for the Italian winger as Massimiliano Allegri’s men await test results with bated breath.
Chiesa has been in sublime form at the commencement of the new campaign. Allegri’s decision to move him further up the pitch has paid dividends, with the ex-Fiorentina ace clocking up four goals and one assist in Serie A already. However, Juventus may have to deal with table-topping Milan without their joint-best goalscorer.
Alongside Dusan Vlahovic and Paul Pogba, Chiesa was amongst the most notable absentees as Juventus breezed past cross-town rivals Torino 2-0 on the stroke of the international break. Italy boss Luciano Spalletti had initially handed the 25-year-old a call-up, but after assessing his fitness status, he had no choice but to send him home.
“Chiesa was at 30% of his ability, and he was in a bit of pain,” Spalletti said before cutting him loose. The quicksilver Juventus forward has worked tirelessly on his recovery in recent weeks. Yet, it may not be enough to earn him a place in the matchday squad next weekend.
Despite overcoming Torino and squeaking past Lecce 1-0 in the build-up to the Derby della Mole, Juventus have suffered a lot without their talismanic goal-getter. His potential absence against Milan would significantly derail their chances of arresting a dreadful five-match winless Serie A streak against eternal rivals.
