Juventus Formally Confirm to Have Hired Thiago Motta

Juventus took their swell time before finally announcing Thiago Motta as their new head coach. He replaces Massimiliano Allegri, who got the ax two games before the end of the season due to his antics in the Coppa Italia final. Paolo Montero served as the caretaker manager afterward.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Bianconeri’s director Cristiano Giuntoli first reached out to the boss back in February. His team had started to lose ground in the Scudetto race back then. The two clicked, and the manager had an expiring contract.

Thiago Motta inked a three-year deal with Juventus. He will earn €3.5M annually plus bonus, Mediaset reports. The Old Lady eventually came to terms with an early rescission with Allegri. They saved on his residual cost, although not entirely.

The boss is coming off a glorious campaign at Bologna, finishing fifth and leading them to a historic Champions League berth. They closed the previous season in ninth place. After helming PSG’s U-19 team, he got his Serie A start in one of his former teams, Genoa. He was sacked after just nine matches as his tactics proved to be too extreme. Instead, he successfully avoided relegation with Spezia the following year.

Thiago Motta has been attached to several sides in the last few months, and Bologna tried their best to keep him, but Juventus won him over early. As a player, he starred for Barcelona, Genoa, Inter, PSG, and the Italian national team. He won the domestic title eight times and the Champions League twice, among several trophies.

In other coaching news, Monza appointed Alessandro Nesta.
