Juventus Gaining Confidence in Chase of Manchester United Star

The return of Paul Pogba to Juventus is starting to become a real possibility, despite the fierce competition and the mammoth figures involved. The contract of the midfielder expires in June 2022. While there appeared to be momentum in the recent extension talks, Manchester United now seem resigned to losing him, ESPN reports.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pogba told his agent Mino Raiola to prioritize Juventus over Real Madrid and PSG. The midfielder would have to give up something from the economic standpoint to return to Turin. The offer by the Bianconeri would be inferior to those of the other powerhouses. But he could do it in case of a long-term contract.

The French international currently make €14M per season. Juventus could save a lot on taxes thanks to the Decreto Crescita. However, the sum would still be very burdensome on their balance sheets. The departure of Aaron Ramsey, and shedding his €7M salary off the books, would partially offset it. Other exits are likely as well.

Pogba would be by far the highest-paid player on the roster. The negotiation is in its early stages, and other teams could blow away the competition with a massive offer. But Juventus believe to have an advantage in the race due to the desire of the player. Despite their financial situation, president Andrea Agnelli has not ruled out making select investments to bolster the squad while answering the questions of the shareholders in the recent meeting. For such reason, Dusan Vlahovic remains a target too.
