Dusan Vlahovic’s first brace of the 2023/24 Serie A season inspired Juventus to an overwhelming 3-1 home triumph over Lazio on Saturday afternoon. Speaking to the press in the aftermath, the Serbia international admitted Massimiliano Allegri’s men have “a point to prove” this season.
Vlahovic found a perfect way to make amends for wasting a penalty in a 2-0 win at Empoli on the eve of the international break. The 23-year-old opened the scoring at the Allianz Stadium, latching onto Manuel Locatelli’s cross to put Juventus in front only ten minutes into the proceedings.
Unfazed by the injury that kept him on the sidelines during the international break, Federico Chiesa maintained his free-scoring start to the season to double his team’s advantage in the 26th minute. It was the Italian’s third goal in as many Serie A games as his new role at Juventus looks to be a gift that keeps on giving.
Lazio pulled one back through Luis Alberto midway through the second half. But Vlahovic clipped the visitors’ wings with his second on the day, helping Juventus to a third victory in four matches.
“In my view, last season was very difficult in every area and despite all that, we didn’t do too badly. This season, we feel more fired up and have a point to prove. Only with this aggression, unity, and solidity can we achieve great things,” the Juventus superstar told DAZN, as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb.
