Danilo was said to be the only Juventus veteran whose contract renewal was a lock, but recent events have affected such negotiation as well. Unlike Alex Sandro, Juan Cuadrado, and Angel Di Maria, he’s tied to the Old Lady for another campaign.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there was an agreement in place to push the expiration date of his deal to 2025, with an option. However, the new management has put every extension on hold. The defender is waiting for a call to see whether the point deduction changed the team’s position.

Danilo has been the true cornerstone of the Juventus defense this season. He last rested five months ago and has gotten the start in 14 consecutive games. He’s the player with the most minutes on the roster, 2330, and one of the few that hasn’t suffered injuries.

The Brazilian defender has been elevated to vice-captain even though others have more appearances. He has a direct dialogue with Massimiliano Allegri. The gaffer communicates with most of the squad through his staff. After joining in a much-maligned partial swap with Joao Cancelo, he has always had a regular role despite various coaching changes.

Our Take on Juventus and Danilo

The only scenario in which he would maybe leave the Bianconeri is if they end up getting relegated for financial misconduct. There’s not much urgency to put pen to paper since he’s under contract until 2024. The uncertainty doesn’t really impact his valuation since his prospective departure wouldn’t fetch much to begin with.
