Juventus Icon Chiellini Set to Join MLS Giants Los Angeles FC

Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini is heavily touted for a Major League Soccer transfer at Los Angeles FC after announcing his departure from the Bianconeri and retirement from the Italy national team.

The 37-year-old veteran is set to join Los Angeles FC after an agreement was reached between the two parties, with contracts the only thing yet to be signed in full disclosure (via ESPN). He is leaving the Turin giants after 17 fruitful seasons, having begun his career in Italy’s third division with Livorno. He experienced a highly-productive one-season stint at Fiorentina in 2004/05 – his first top-tier campaign – before going on to star uninterruptedly for Juventus from the next season onwards.

Los Angeles FC are currently finalizing the deal to bring Chiellini to the States, and a formal agreement is expected to be concluded in the coming weeks. The club is currently on top of the MLS’ Western Conference after 29 points from 14 matches, four more than the second and third-placed teams.

The Euro 2020 winning captain leaves Juventus after 561 appearances, where he registered 36 goals. He also concludes his international career with 117 caps – joint-fifth with Andrea Pirlo and more than all but four players in the country’s history.
